Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapakse Theater – Colombo, Sri Lanka
The newly constructed national performance art theatre was built on the Lotus Pond (Nelum Pokuna) concept of Polonnaruwa. It was declared open by the president on December 15th 2011.
The theater was constructed with the expertise from China at a cost of Rs. 3.08 billion.
The five-storied building comprises a main theater with a seating capacity of 1,288 seats and an open air theater on the top floor. The theater houses a three tier movable stage. It also comprises two exhibition halls, thirteen rehearsal halls, and parking facilities for 500 vehicles, library, and training facilities.
The theatre, equipped with ultra-modern equipment have facilities to conduct educational and research activities.
